The "Fan-shaped Salt Field Tree of Life" opened in August last year, and in December of the same year, the Christmas trees "Tainan 400-The Rise of History" and "Tainan 400-Happiness" were lit up at Hele Plaza and Xinying Cultural Center respectively. The "Tree of Life" landscape art created by teacher Yang Shiyi has attracted more than 170,000 tourists in just two months since its opening in August last year, allowing them to experience the beauty of Taiwan's only salt pan natural landscape environment. Professor Huang Yaling of Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology led a team from the Visual Communication Design Department of Yunlin University of Science and Technology to design two Christmas trees at Hele Plaza and Xinying Cultural Center Plaza with the theme of "Tainan 400", and both won awards.
Hele Plaza's "Tainan 400 - Rise of History" Christmas tree won 4 gold awards in the concept design category - Platinum Award in the Tourism and Leisure Category, Lighting Category, Communication Category, Exhibition and Activities Category and Public Space Category, and won 5 awards; Xinying Culture The center's "Tainan 400 - Legacy of Happiness" Christmas tree won the Gold Award in the Concept Design Category - Exhibitions and Events; the "Fan-shaped Salt Field Tree of Life" won the Gold Medal in the Landscape Design Category - Sculpture Design.
According to the Tourism Bureau, the "Tree of Life in the Fan-shaped Salt Field" is based on the artist Yang Shiyi's idea of the texture environment and humanistic life background of the fan-shaped salt field, creating an ecology in the salt field that combines the beauty of the fan-shaped salt and the spirit of the salt land. Educational water-friendly art works; and "Tainan 400 - The Rise of History" was created by the Yunnan University of Science and Technology team. It stands proudly beside the Tainan Canal and is a Christmas tree and lighting decoration that perfectly matches the "Tainan 400" series of activities.
