Traveling through the National Greenway of Shanhaizhen and Reading Taiwan's History and Humanities 2021/12/09
The Shanhaizhen National Greenway is a cultural path traced to the terroir. The whole journey is divided into four sections. It crosses two counties and cities, three national scenic areas, two national parks, two reservoirs, and three major rivers at the same time. The transportation vehicle can extend from Kaitai Inland Sea all the way to the sacred mountain of Huguo. It is a cultural corridor linking history and nature.

Shanhaizhen National Greenway was formerly known as "Taijiang Shanhaizhen Greenway". It was born in 2007 by the CEO of Tainan University Taijiang Branch and was also initiated by Wu Maocheng, a greenway advocate. It will be jointly planned with the Forestry Bureau and other related organizations in the future. The greenway extends to Yushan and was officially renamed "Shanhaizhen National Greenway" in 2019. Tainan Mayor Huang Weizhe said that the Shanhaizhen National Greenway is about 177 kilometers long and has an elevation difference of 3,952 meters. It can not only go deep into the villages and tribes while being exposed to the natural primitive ecology, it is a route worth exploring for travelers who love outdoor tourism. Therefore, the Tainan City Government Tourism and Tourism Bureau specially planned the "Shanhaizhen National Greenway Sightseeing Tour Manual" this time, and invited Mr. Wu Maocheng to write for the two routes of the "Inland Sea Road" and the "Dazhen Road" within the territory of Tainan. In-depth guide introduction and recommendation of surrounding attractions, people who love mountain-friendly and green tourism can learn more about Tainan's cultural history and natural environment.

Guo Zhenhui, director of the tour, said that the Shanhaizhen Greenway starts from Taijiang National Park in Annan District and passes through the administrative districts such as Annan District, Xinshi District, Shanhua District, Guantian District, Liujia District and Dongshan District along the way in Tainan. Containing many historical stories and natural ecology, this is a long-distance trail consisting of trails, bicycle lanes, embankment roads, water canals, agricultural roads, and even highways and industrial roads. It can be diversified by hiking, bicycles, buses, and even ferries. The mode of transportation, of course, the distance of 177 kilometers is definitely not possible in two or three days. People can evaluate their physical strength and choose their favorite route to complete it in sections.

The "Shanhaizhen National Greenway Tourism Manual" manual is available for free from the public today.
