A delegation of the Sing Tao Newspaper Group, led by King-Lim Kwong, editor-in-chief of the overseas editions in Hong Kong Headquarters, visited Tainan City today (May 30). The delegation members, consisting of 12 CEOs and editorial heads from the group’s overseas offices in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sydney, Europe and Toronto, heard a briefing about Tainan City and visited Mayor Ching-Te Lai at the city hall. Mayor Lai not only introduced the different dimensions of Tainan City in terms of tourism, culture, agriculture, and industry, but also promoted the direct flights between Tainan and Hong Kong to be launched on July 18. The delegation members then sampled some local snacks and visited famous tourist attractions and historic sites in Tainan.
Mayor Lai expressed his hope that through coverage by the Sing Tao Daily, more Hong Kong residents can learn about the direct flights between Tainan and Hong Kong. Exchanges between the two places will boost, and consequently, more and more overseas Chinese will get to know Tainan City, and visit or invest in the city. Mayor Lai introduced Tainan as the very first capital of Taiwan, with 22 national- and 109 municipal-level historic sites. The city’s abundant cultural and historic heritage has earned it the fame of the “Cultural Capital” of Taiwan, and is a member of the United Nations’ League of Historical Cities. The city’s agriculture and aquaculture specialties such as mangos, orchids, longans, papayas, groupers, and Taiwan snapper fish are supplied in huge quantities and of superior quality. In addition, the city’s delectable snacks enjoy high visibility and recognition on the global stage.
Mr. Kwong stated that he witnessed the diverse dimensions and great potential of Tainan City through the briefing. He would gladly recommend the safe and warm environment, palatable delicacies and snacks, as well as the historical and cultural heritage of Tainan to overseas Chinese. He further praised Tainan residents for their enthusiasm and hospitality which left a great impression on all of the delegates. Peter Lee, Vice COO of the Eastern Canada Edition of the Sing Tao Daily, said that Tainan City has implemented plans to achieve a balance between ecological conservation and industrial development, allowing nature and industry to co-exist and prosper simultaneously. He was tremendously amazed at this rare success in the world and felt admiration for the city government. The Sing Tao Newspaper Group convened its global business meeting in Taiwan for the first time from May 26 to June 5. A total of 12 administrative and editorial heads from the offices in Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia attended the meeting.
