Tainan City's annual cultural event, the "13th Fucheng Puji Lantern Festival", will officially debut on January 24, 2025. The lantern festival will follow the annual festival and "open the temple gates" on the 25th day of the twelfth lunar month. An opening ceremony was held during the "Welcoming the Gods", and the Puji Hall and surrounding lantern areas were lit up through the "Lighting Ceremony". Up to 1,800 lanterns painted by the people themselves were lit. These lanterns brought together creativity and ingenuity from all over the world. Each one carries the participants’ enthusiasm for cultural inheritance and blessings for the lantern festival, symbolizing the start of peace and prosperity in the new year. Tainan City Mayor Huang Weizhe attends the event every year, and this time he also led the heads of relevant city government bureaus to express his support for the event and his appreciation for the power of the private sector through actions.

Today (1/14) a press conference was held at Puji Hall. Councilors Chen Yizhen, Councilor Shen Zhendong, Councilor Xu Zhichun, Councilor Lu Kunfu, Councilor Li Qiwei and many representatives of legislators and service offices attended the press conference. The opening ceremony will be held simultaneously with the "2025 Tainan City Puji Lantern Conference Chief's Cup Creative Painted Lantern Competition Award Ceremony". The most exciting thing is that this year, 200 works from Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, a friendship city of Tainan City, have joined. , especially in social groups. In order to encourage friends from Japan, Golden Tulip Hotel Tainan has also added three special awards to encourage them. The social category works in previous years, which tended to be too realistic in style, have caused quite a stir. The Year of the Snake Paper-cut Lane Lantern Exhibition takes Taiwan's aboriginal culture as its theme, presenting animal legends and natural imagery. The curator, Ms. Xie Meiling, went deep into the eastern region and invited 105 elders and children to create works together to show the beauty of aboriginal people of all ethnic groups.

The year of Yisi coincides with the "Puji Temple Centenary King's Tour and the Five Dynasties' Disasters to Pray for Peace and Blessings". It is the earliest royal temple registered in Taiwan by the Ministry of Culture. It is rare to see this event in a century. After the Lantern Festival ends in March, the "Lantern Tunnel" exhibition will be launched on Hai'an Road. Through disaster relief and blessing rituals and Wang Jiao ritual activities, the incense of local traditional culture will be burned. Over time, people can also see the beauty of Taiwanese culture and understand this land better.

In terms of traditional culture, the century-old Zhensheng Society Nanguan Orchestra will bring classic Nanguan music performances to recreate the ancient music atmosphere of Puji Temple Temple. Invite Su Junying's Palm Puppet Theater to perform, integrating traditional culture and modern art, bringing a cultural feast to citizens and tourists. The mayor once said: "The Puji Lantern Festival is not only a cultural treasure of the city, but also an important driver of local economic growth."

It combines culture, restoration and art therapy to become a community cultural base. During the lantern festival, "88 Art Therapy" will hold art exhibitions and lectures, inviting the public to experience the charm of the space with profound cultural heritage. It is not only a place where tradition and modernity intertwine, but also an important base to promote community culture and economic vitality, adding cultural depth to the lantern festival.

Creating a warm feeling of going home during the Chinese New Year is the original intention of the "Puji Lantern Festival" constantly reiterated. The purpose of the lantern festival of "the more local, the more international" is also the belief that has been taken along the way. This lantern festival will last for 43 days from January 24 to March 1, 2025. The lantern area covers Guohua Street, Puji Temple Temple City and surrounding alleys. This year's lantern show, with the theme of "Reappearance of Light and Shadow, New Image of Fucheng", combines the historical features of Puji Hall with modern artistic creativity, and is expected to attract more than 300,000 participants.
